Lost WRT54G CD

April 4th, 2009

So you lost your Linksys CD and can’t access the administraion gateway on your router?  Heres what to do..

It was surprising to find that Linksys doesn’t host the install drivers on its website for this router model.

1. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
2. Unplug then plug back the power adapter to the power source.

II. Configure the router.
1. Connect a computer to any of the LAN or ethernet (numbered) ports of the router. Use the computer that can access the Internet when connected directly to the modem. Disable the firewall on the computer.

2. Make sure that the corresponding LED for the numbered port is lit. (The modem should not be connected to the router yet).
3. Double-click on Internet Explorer.
4. When Internet Explorer opens, type 192.168.1.1 on the Address bar and click on Go. The log-in screen window will appear.
5. Skip user name and type admin (the default password) as the password, and then hit Enter.
6. By default the router will be set to obtain an IP Address Automatically.
8. Go to Setup and click on the MAC Address Clone sub tab. Click on Enable and then Clone my PC’s MAC.
8. Save settings.
9. Using an Ethernet cable, connect the modem’s Ethernet port to the router’s Internet port, leaving the computer hooked up to the router.
10. Then check if you can get online.
11. If you can’t get online, turn off the router and the modem for 3 minutes.
12. Then turn it on after and get online.

For the Wireless Settings:
> Go to the Wireless tab and click the Wireless Security sub tab.
> Choose WPA-Personal as your wireless encryption.
> Then go to the Basic Wireless Settings sub tab and change the following:

*NETWORK MODE: MIXED
*SSID: Change it to your name or to whatever you like
*CHANNEL: 11
*SSID BROADCAST: ENABLED

> Then save the settings.
